Speaker Bio
Adam Kirkwood is a fourth year Ph.D. candidate in the Geography program at Carleton University. His research focus is aimed on better understanding how changing permafrost environments impacts biogeochemical cycling. For his PhD research, he is using various methods to upscaling to estimate the storage of mercury in the Hudson Bay Lowlands, a peatland of national and global importance. In addition, he is using remote sensing, analytical, and molecular methods to understand how permafrost thaw is creating landscapes that may be more or less suitable for the methylation of mercury, which is the conversion to it's organic and neurotoxic species.
