Description

A dignified approach to assessing safety of children who live with violence

This presentation will outline the research findings that demonstrate the difference Response Based Practice makes to the way child protection practitioners assess the safety of children who live with violence. It will include:

  • Insights from surveys of over 1000 child protection practitioners about their attitudes to domestic and family violence
  • Evidence that exploring and understanding women’s resistance to violence changes the way practitioners think about their protectiveness as a parent
  • Practical examples about the benefits of Response Based Practice in a child protection context

The presentation will incorporate contemporary thinking and evidence with real examples. It is a hopeful and powerful demonstration of the undeniable benefits of upholding dignity and working with a social justice stance to understand violence.
