Name
Supporting regional water stakeholders to better protect drinking water sources in Quebec
Date & Time
Tuesday, May 26, 2026, 2:00 PM - 2:15 PM
Description
In recent years, Quebec has adopted several policies, laws and regulations to better protect drinking water sources. From PACES (Groundwater Knowledge Projects) to drinking water source vulnerability analysis reports, there has been an increasing amount of knowledge about water. Several organizations are involved in water management at a regional level (regional county municipalities, watershed organizations, municipalities). Responsibilities are shared between different stakeholders, each of which has its own tools and planning scales. The multiplication of scientific knowledge and stakeholders has made it difficult for all these actors to appropriate that knowledge and to coordinate their actions in order to carry out effective and coherent actions across their territories. Since 2022, researchers at Laval University and INRS have been working to support regional water stakeholders in ensuring the sustainable management of their resources. This presentation will discuss challenges and needs faced by regional stakeholders in moving from research and scientific data to land-use planning.
