Name
Pseudo-pole-pole electrical resistivity arrays
Description
For a fixed array of Ne electrical resistivity electrodes, Ne (Ne-1) (Ne-2) (Ne-3)/8 measurements with distinct pseudosection plot points can be made. However, only Ne (Ne-3)/2 measurements will be linearly independent. It is therefore appealing to save field time by measuring only a minimal subset of all possible measurements and calculating other possible measurements after the fact. The results of pole-pole surveys, in which reference current and potential electrodes are placed far from the survey area, have been previously used as a basis for which other electrode array results can be calculated. In this contribution, we consider results from a pseudo-pole-pole array, where two reference electrodes are kept at fixed locations that are not-necessarily placed far from the array. We show that pseudo-pole-pole results can be transformed into other measurement types through simple transformations. Additionally, both normal and reciprocal measurements can be calculated and the difference can be used for quality control purposes. We show results for synthetic models and for field trials and show that the results of inverted sections using the additional calculated measurements are improved.
