Name
Mapping the lithospheric architecture of Canada: New advances and application to the Superior craton
Date & Time
Monday, May 27, 2024, 3:15 PM - 3:30 PM
Description

Obtaining reliable estimates of the physical state of the Earth’s interior, such as thermochemical structure, stress and strain distributions, constitutes a central goal of solid Earth geophysics and supports various evolutionary models of the Earth. Interest in this lithospheric-scale subsurface information has recently grown considerably due to its relevance in supporting the energy transition and related green technologies. This discussion will focus on LitMod, a Multi-observable Thermochemical Tomography (MTT) approach, and examine preliminary results obtained from imaging the physical state of the lithosphere beneath Canada. Additionally, we'll present the 3D thermochemical model of the entire lithosphere and sub-lithosphere beneath the Superior craton region, discussing recent advances and applications.
