Name
S6 Structure and Dynamics of the Deep Earth
Description
Earth’s mantle and core are by far the largest reservoirs of mass and heat. Many important processes occur in this important but remote part of the Earth. Earth’s magnetic field is generated by the convectively-driven geodynamo in Earth’s core while convection in Earth’s mantle cools the core and drives plate tectonics. In this session, we solicit observational, laboratory and modeling studies regarding all aspects of Earth’s deep interior including studies of seismology, high pressure mineral physics and geodynamic modeling.
