While Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been around for decades in the form of machine learning, the relatively recent increase in affordable computing power and deep learning methods has created an AI boom across all industries. Geographic Information Systems and Science (GIS and GISc) are uniquely situated to take advantage of the diverse geospatial applications of AI (GeoAI). Esri Canada, through the ArcGIS platform, has implemented many GeoAI tools, from using Large Language Models (LLMs) to analyze unstructured text to using computer vision models to automate imagery workflows across various industries. These GeoAI projects have included internal projects using computer vision to detect when roads are missing from a road network, using LLMs for sentiment analysis from text, and various project with customers developing custom models. The ArcGIS Living Atlas of the World has over 90 pretrained models available for local use, allowing you to maintain data security, privacy, and sovereignty. ArcGIS also contains tools to fine-tune existing models and to develop your own models to better fit your needs.
