Name
Bangladeshi Migrants in Ottawa: A Socio-Spatial Analysis
Description
This study applies Koinova’s (2021) spatial linkages framework and Rodó-Zárate’s (2023) emotional geographic approach to examine how Bangladeshi migrants in Ottawa navigate local and transnational spaces. Through themes of geographies of othering, geographies of togetherness, and familial ties, findings reveal how migrants experience exclusion, create spaces for cultural expression, and negotiate family influence on identity and aspirations. The research highlights the fluidity of socio-spatial positionality and reflects on methodological challenges, ethical considerations, and emotional labor in people-centered research. It contributes to human geography by amplifying migrant voices and proposing future directions, including mixed methods and digital spaces.
