Date & Time
Friday, May 23, 2025, 8:30 AM - 8:45 AM
Description
Over the last decade, Ontario has started to experience a shift towards electric vehicle manufacturing. Since this transition is relatively recent, little is known about Ontario’s electric vehicle landscape. In other words, there are many unanswered questions. For example, what is the current status of electric vehicle manufacturing in Ontario? Where are electric vehicle plants located in the province? Are any barriers preventing this shift? To answer these questions, we examine media coverage, which has extensively covered electric vehicle production in Ontario, providing important insights. Specifically, we conducted a media analysis of 1,719 news articles on electric vehicle production in Ontario, Canada, over the last decade (2014 to 2024). The preliminary findings reveal that Ontario’s shift towards electric vehicle manufacturing has resulted from existing auto manufacturing plants switching to electric vehicle production and new electric vehicle plants being built in the province. However, there are signs that low demand for electric vehicles is halting Ontario’s shift towards electric vehicle production.
