Dr. Michelle Lavoie (she/her) is a postdoctoral researcher with MacEwan University. Michelle’s recently completed doctorate in Educational Policy Studies explored the potential of art-based mentorship to engage and support 2SLGBTQ+ youth. Michelle’s current work focuses on using arts-based, narrative, and community based research approaches to engage communities. Her research translates and mobilizes knowledge through participatory and publicly accessible platforms (e.g., public art exhibitions and interactive websites) to support 2SLGBTQ+ individuals and communities and inform inclusive policy development. Michelle joined the Edmonton Queer History Project in 2015, acting as the curator for the Art Gallery of Alberta’s inaugural and subsequent travelling exhibitions.
