Speaker Bio
Pete Wiesner started his career working as a Correctional Officer and then proceeded to his police career. For the last 21 years, Pete has been a Police Officer with the Hamilton Police Service. Pete's career has taken him from Uniform Patrol to Vice and Drugs, then seconded to the RCMP for an International Drug Investigation. Upon returning to patrol, Pete eventually found his way into the Crisis Response Branch as a Social Navigator. During the three years as the Social Navigator, Pete created inroads and fostered relationships with Community Partners to help those most marginalized get the navigation they needed.

In 2019 Pete took on the Supervisor of the Crisis Response Branch, which oversees COAST, MCRRT, and the Social Navigator Program. Additionally, in April 2022, Pete and his team were the successful applicants for an 8.3M Provincial CSP grant, which will pay for the salaries and partner police with Social Service Workers from Hamilton's community agencies, proficient in the field of addiction, mental health, and most importantly, homelessness, to work directly along side police. This partnership will allow the most critical stakeholders safe access to the frontline to tackle issues related to the "Marginalized Triangle" (homelessness, addiction, and mental health).
