Gershon Willinger was born in Amsterdam, the Netherlands in 1942 and he is one of the youngest Child Survivors who in his young life went through three concentration camps. His parents were German Jews who fled to Holland and in July 1943 were murdered in the extermination camp in Sobibor, Poland. After being in various foster homes and institutions, Gershon was permanently placed in 1950 with a Jewish family in Holland and immigrated to Israel in 1960. He joined the Israeli army and served as a paratrooper. In later years, Gershon returned to the army as a professional mental health officer for troops. Gershon studied social work in Israel, and spent all his working life treating and helping abused children. Gershon is a speaker for Friends of the Simon Wiesenthal Centre and the Holocaust Centre of Toronto.
